When no one is watching

Assume there are no Sundays to join the worship service.

No collection book for you to officially keep. No visible role in the church. No public routine for people to notice. No easy way for anyone to look at your life and say, "Yes, this person is a Christian."

If you subtract all those public requirements of Christianity from your life, will God still recognize you as one of His dear ones?

That is the question. It is not asked to scare us for no reason. It is asked because sometimes we can become comfortable with the public side of faith and forget the private side God sees clearly.

Visible

Public signs

Good gifts, but not the whole proof of a life with God.

  • Sunday gathering
  • Church roles
  • Public knowledge

Hidden

Private roots

The quiet habits that remain when the crowd disappears.

  • Prayer when no one sees
  • Love and trust for God
  • A hunger for His word
Public faith matters, but it has to be rooted in a private life God can still recognize.

When no one is watching

When no one is watching, do you pray?

Do you spend private time building your personal love and trust for God?

Or at least, do you yearn to?

That last part matters to me. Some days, the desire may not be strong. Some days, prayer may feel weak. But even the honest yearning to draw closer to God is not a small thing.

This is surely for you. Specifically, you. It is for anyone who has ever been around worship, around church, around religious language, and still had to ask, "What about my own heart?"

The mission here is simple: to echo out the need in our individual walk with God.

Your own walk

Finding yourself in a church of saved people does not automatically make you saved.

That sentence is heavy, but it is true. Being surrounded by people who love God is a blessing. Growing up around faith is a blessing. Having a congregation, a preacher, a family, or friends who encourage you is a blessing.

Still, their Christianity cannot replace yours.

Your pastor has his personal Christianity. Your parents have theirs. Your friends have theirs. The church has its public worship and shared work. But before God, your soul cannot hide behind all of that forever.

You have to build yours.

Practice

Pray privately

Not to perform devotion, but to return your heart to God honestly.

Practice

Read to understand

Scripture is not a badge to wear; it is a voice to learn.

Practice

Desire the desire

Even wanting to want God is a beginning He can work with.

The word of God

If you could memorize the whole Bible, it does not automatically register you in the Book of Life.

That does not mean Bible knowledge is useless. Far from it. It would still be foolish for anyone to choose not to gain mastery in decoding God's words.

The word of God should not just sit in the mind. It should enter the heart. It should correct us, humble us, strengthen us, and teach us how to walk with God when no one else is there.

So read. Study. Ask questions. Learn. But do not stop at sounding informed. Let the word do its work inside you.

Ready to build yours?

Forget about your pastor for a moment. That is his personal Christianity.

Forget about the public image for a moment. Forget about what people assume because they see you in the right place.

When it is just you before God, what is there?

Do you pray?

Do you trust Him?

Do you love Him?

Do you yearn to?

That may be the place to start.

Ready to build yours?
